Michael Kannen has devoted himself to teaching cello and coaching chamber music throughout his career.

 

He has been the Director of Chamber Music at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he holds the Sidney Friedberg Chair in Chamber Music, since 2002.

 

He has held teaching positions at the University of Texas El Paso, Dartmouth University, Princeton Univesity, SUNY Purchase, and The New School.

 

He is on the faculty of the Yellow Barn Music Festival and School and has taught at the Taos Chamber Music Festival, Caramoor Music Festival, Interlochen, Madeline Island Music Camp, and Tanglewood.

 

He regularly gives masterclasses at Eastern Carolina University, The Beethoven Institute at Mannes College and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore. He has given classes at the Eastman School of Music, Shephard School of Music at Rice Univesity, Boston Conservatory, Mannes College, and Nazareth College.
